In 1852 there were 38 pubs in Oxford Street, now there is just one - The Tottenham.
It was built in 1892 by the Baker Brothers who not only built, but bought and sold pubs too.

They had arrived in London, from Devon, in the 1870's, with just a few shillings. Two decades later, they had a pub empire. The Tottenham was never part of that empire but was run by the brothers independently until they sold it in 1897.
At the turn of the century their empire crashed and all their pubs were sold off. Few survived intact. The Tottenham was the exception. Much of the decoration lavished on it at the time is still there. The paintings, mirrors and carvings are all by the master-craftsmen of the day.
Note: Music, sometimes loud.
