Built in 1602, the Seven Stars has just celebrated its 400th anniversary and marked the occasion with a street party. It is one of a handful of buildings to survive the Great Fire of London in 1666.
Its proprietor, Roxy Beaujolais, has carried out some sensitive renovation, and improved the food and ales too.

Behind the smart wooden frontage is a long narrow bar and a small snug at one end, with an open fire. It is simply but comfortably furnished, with wooden settles and a few tables and chairs.
Apart from installing a dumb-waiter, the changes have been subtle, mainly a general sprucing up.
It remains a pub with character, full of characters, many of them connected with the nearby Inns of Court and the Royal Courts of Justice opposite.
Despite plenty of competition from smart wine-bars and huge 'chain' pubs, the Seven Stars still manages to pack them in. Well done and happy anniversary!
