Tucked away in a quiet corner of Mayfair the Red Lion enjoys a relatively tranquil life.
It looks and feels like a country pub. When it was built in the mid eighteenth century, it was just that.
A century later and it was completely surrounded by what has become the most expensive real estate in London.

The pub has changed in keeping with its neighbours. The rustic charm of today's interior is a far cry from its austere origins.
The single bar has a low ceiling, dark wood panelled walls and a wooden floor. Winged settles (high backed benches) and stools make up the majority of the furniture.
Its customers have changed too; farmers, then household staff, now business people and tourists. Lunchtimes and early evenings are busy.
The bar food is reasonably priced and there is a restaurant if you're feeling extravagant.
In a recent TV item, singer Tom Jones said this was his favourite London pub.
