Tucked away in the back streets of exclusive Mayfair, this charming little pub looks more suited to the country than central London. Built in the 1750's, it is the second oldest pub in Mayfair.
Window boxes and hanging baskets decorate the wooden frontage.
Double doors open into the single bar, which is plain and simple, with bare floorboards and timber panelling.

A recent refurbishment has removed the partition between the public and saloon bars which has made it more airy but at the expense of intimacy. Thankfully the lovely etched glass door panels remain, as well as the wooden partition, with its etched glass and tiny door, which runs along the former entrance and hallway. The trend to remove these partitions often alters the character of the pub, usually to its detriment.
There is a dining area at the rear. The food is reasonable pub fayre and sensibly priced. The beers are good and not too expensive given the location. |
