OPENING HOURS
In England and Wales the maximum permitted hours of opening are
Monday to Saturday 11.00 to 23.00
Sunday 12.00 to 22.30
Note Although pubs have to open within these hours, many choose hours that suit their trade. Pubs in the city often close earlier in the evenings and do not open at weekends. Pubs in residential areas may close in the afternoon, so always check the entry first.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
Customers must be 18 years of age to drink alcohol in a pub unless they are having a meal in an area set aside for eating in which case 16-year-olds (accompanied by an adult) can drink beer or cider.
Children of 14 to 17 years old can enter bar areas but cannot buy or consume alcohol.
Children under 14 cannot enter a bar area unless the pub has a 'Children's Certificate' and they are accompanied by an adult.
If you are in any doubt check with the bar staff if you want to bring children into a pub, most will have an area set aside.
