Although the 'perfect pub' is subjective, this one comes pretty close. Its location, high above the Cheshire Plain, affords spectacular views to the North Wales mountains, weather permitting of course.
Set in quiet countryside, the attractive stone buildings house the pub, whilst adjacent barns have been converted into pleasant bedrooms, 12 in all. The smart main bar has been enlarged but still has comfortable alcoves and smaller areas for privacy.
The quality of the food is excellent; fresh ingredients, expertly cooked, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Cooking of this standard isn't cheap but is great value; several main courses are just over £10. There's wide choice of wines and the real ales are local and well kept.
In summary; the location's breathtaking, the rooms are comfy, the pub relaxing, the food excellent and the ales spot-on. That's pretty close! See rooms and rates at
