A little off the beaten track, the Mitre occupies an imposing position on the corner of Lancaster Mews and Craven Terrace.
With a couple of well-known pubs in the vacinity, it is unfairly overlooked by most of the guide books.
Despite being a Grade II listed building, this classic Victorian pub has suffered some 'improvement', but nonetheless, has plenty to offer by the way of original features.

The two main bars areas are open, bright and comfortable, with some fine decoration, antique furniture and pictures.
Towards the back of the pub, cosier bar areas have elegant etched and cut glass panels, decorative ceramic tiles, carved woodwork and marble fireplaces. A dark and richly decorated passage leads to a non-smoking snug, which has its own servery. Here a door leads to the Cellar Bar, a cave-like warren of tiny seating areas. Mind your head!
