MARKET PORTER |
LONDON SE1 9AA |
9 Stoney Street, Southwark |

 |
As the name implies many of this pubs customers work on Borough fruit and vegetable market opposite. They make up the 'early shift', replaced later by office workers and curious tourists.
There are several bars each varying in character, but all timber-rich, be it panelling or beams. This gives the pub a very cosy atmosphere.
|
It's a good honest local with a 'welcome', something that the big chains sometimes fail to deliver. There's a good selection of well kept real ales. It was at one time a brew-pub and there's a micro brewery next door.
Ambitious plans for a £10 million regeneration of the market are being considered. One idea is to re-site the Floral Hall portico from Covent Garden here.
The area has some interesting old buildings and is full of surprises. Clink Prison Museum and Southwark Cathedral are nearby.
