New pub entries for August 2011 include the George and Dragon in Hudswell, the first pub community-owned pub in North Yorkshire. See the accompanying
George & Dragon video.
There's a couple of pubs in Hartfield, Sussex which is in Pooh Bear country, A.A. Milne had a house just outside the village. The Anchor Inn is more the drinkers pub with some excellent ales, the pub food has a god reputation too. The Hay Waggon in on the main road and a little more dressed-up, which may suit some tastes. Again a good reputaion for food, but we'd love your feedback. Not sure which one Winnie the Pooh drank in, neither serve hunny beer.
Pubs with accommodation include the Chequers Inn at Forest Row, a lovely old pub with a long history. Check out the magnificent fireplace. Also the Old Crown Inn, an ancient pub on the narrow road through Edenbridge, Kent. Taken over by a hardworking couple, Michelle and Mike, they are in the process of transforming this historic inn back to its glory days.
A little further out into the Kent countryside near Maidstone, two nice pubs with different appeal. The Bull Inn at Linton is a beautiful long cottage building with magnificent views across the Kent Weald. The garden is a delight and the new decked area has plenty of seating from which to drink-in the view.
To the north of Maidstone, near Detling, in the hamlet of Thurnham is the Black Horse Inn. This pretty pub has a cosy bar, a restaurant, a deli, a beautiful garden (available for weddings) and a 20 room hotel in the landscaped grounds. The food and beers are good and there's an affordable wine list. That pretty well ticks all the boxes.
