In a quiet residential side street in fashionable and expensive Islington, the imposing façade of the Drapers Arms looks like a theatre or an institute. For all its width, inside the pub it is surprisingly shallow and quite small, gaining a little extra space from an extension to the rear.
The bright and airy bar is simply furnished with scrubbed tables and a bare timber floor. The friendly and welcoming staff help create an informal and relaxed atmosphere and the Drapers achieves a fine balance between pub and restaurant. Although food is the draw here, when sitting at the bar with a pint, one doesn't feel under pressure to eat. However with such good food on offer it's difficult to resist. ( Draper's Menu)
At weekends it's a popular pub with families, which is either a positive or negative depending on your circumstances. There's an upstairs dining room and a secluded garden. This is definitely a place to meet for a meal and a drink, be it a decent pint or a bottle from the extensive wine list, but still retains a pub atmosphere.
