Pubs.com Review
This historic pub's past can be easily traced thanks to the National Trust, in whose care it now resides. Built in 1455 by a former Lord Mayor of London, Sir Ralph Verney, it grew in size and importance. Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII are believed to have stayed here whilst on their honeymoon. A century later, during the Civil War, Aylesbury was Cromwell's head quarters and the King's Head was used as a meeting place.

In the 18th century it was a thriving coaching inn; four coaches and 28 horses could be stabled here. It was the first 'posting house' in Aylesbury, the Act of Parliament Clock is in the Great Hall. The pub has changed little since then and although it no longer lets rooms, today it's a popular tourist destination and a busy pub, serving good food and local ales supplied by Chiltern Brewery who also run the pub.
