The Pev looks a bit lonely on its corner plot, most of its former neighbours were cleared for redevelopment. Clad in green ceramic tiles it stands out, shines even. Its unusual in both its appearance and in its name, which commemorates a famous Manchester to London stagecoach, which in turn took its name from Sir Walter Scott's novel. The man who built the stagecoach, apparently, also built the pub.
The bars fit the odd shape of the building, coming off the central servery at angles. There's a lot of polished timber and the overall appearance is soft and mellow. The pub is popular with students, who dominate the table football machine, and real ale enthusiasts, usually three on sale. It is also a meeting point for Manchester United fans on match days. It is certainly the most attractive pub in Manchester and possibly the most famous too.
