This lovely historic pub dates from the 17th century, although parts of it are probably much older. Despite extensions in the last century, the central and oldest part has retained its character. 'Mind your head' as you walk through the low-beamed snugs. At one end a log burner is enclosed by wooden pews, at the other a charming little room has a small wooden fireplace. Thankfully the extensions, no doubt built because of the pubs popularity, have been added on and not interfered with the intimacy of the historic parts. This is due to the 'locals' who fought more drastic changes and we owe them a debt of gratitude.
Ember Inns now have the White Lion and offer some good cask ales and decent pub grub, with special offers running most of the time. They have a Grill Night on Tuesdays and Curry Night on Thursdays. Please note they only allow children over 14.
The pub was a disappointment for me and my friends.
We have ordered the food and was waiting for it for a nearly an hour (50 minutes). Burnt food, Smelly toilets. Awful.
