Pubs.com Review
If you like your pubs traditional then you won't be disappointed at the Pontefract Castle. The attractive bow front windows and carriage lights may be a little 'Olde England' but it makes a change from bland plate glass. Inside it's smart and well appointed. The most striking feature is the cast iron spiral staircase that leads to the dining area.
Situated on the corner of Wigmore Street and pedestrianised St. Christopher's Place, it's handy for shoppers trying to escape the crowds. There's even some pleasant outside seating, a rarity for pubs in this part of town. The beers are good and on our visit no less than six real ales were on offer.
Like several pubs in Central London nowadays, it is open on Sundays and daily from 10am when breakfast is available, which is particularly welcome for tourists.
