This beautiful former coaching inn situated near Bassenthwaite Lake started life 500 years ago as a simple farmhouse. Renowned for its award winning food, it also has a good wine list, a large selection of whiskies and few local real ales. The Victorian bar is sumptuously decorated and has many original features. The comfortable bedrooms are traditionally furnished. The huntsman John Peel was a regular in the 19th century and Lakeland artist Edward Thompson paid off a large bar bill with two watercolours that still hang in the bar. The Pheasant comes highly recommended by Lateroooms visitors.
