Built on the site of a former alehouse, the Green Man dates from around 1700.
The Heath was a popular spot for duelling, many a score settled and honour restored.
William Pitt and Tierney, MP for Southwark, fought a duel here over a Parliamentary bill. Neither was hurt.
Perhaps they had a drink here afterwards?

The Heath was a dangerous place, a haunt of highwaymen. One, Jerry Abbershaw, drank here. He was caught and hanged on a gibbet outside.
Nowadays, this once remote country pub, is a welcome watering hole for walkers.
There are two small, simply furnished bars, which extend into the back of the building. This said, they are still no size at all. The original bars, at the front, have wooden floors, half panelled walls and sash windows.
Outside there are two pleasant seating areas, with climbing plants and hanging baskets of flowers.
